Blake’s
Story

Blake joined CrossFit 405 in February 2018 and has been absolutely loving it ever since. Many times, members come looking to lose weight, but Blake was looking to put on muscle and gain strength, to join the #AntiDadBod fight. He said, “I wanted something to push me in ways I hadn't been pushed before. I had heard CrossFit was something that would do just that.”

When we asked him what it was like when he first started, Blake said, “When I first started CrossFit, I was physically weak and out of shape, not where I had hoped to be in at this age. I remember being exhausted after on-ramp and thinking “How am I going to do this?” The first few months after on-ramp were challenging, but I could see and feel results. I was hooked instantly.”

Today, Blake has met his original goals. “Life is much different, much better for me now. I have 3 kids, 4 and under, and I have the energy to play and engage with them in ways they need. Not only has my energy increased, but I have also seen a significant difference in my mental capacity. I’ve seen the more I workout, the stronger I become mentally. I can honestly say that CrossFit has reshaped my life holistically.”

We asked him what he would say to someone thinking about starting CrossFit and Blake said, “My outlook now is that I have a job to steward my body to the best of my ability. I don’t get to trade my body in for a newer one. Take care of the one you have been blessed with today so that your best days are ahead.”

Why did you start CrossFit?

#AntiDadBod was the main reason. I wanted something to push me in ways I hadn’t been pushed before. I had heard CrossFit was something that would do just that.

Tell us about your experience as a member at CrossFit 405? What's it been like?

My experience as a member at CrossFit 405 has truly been amazing. Not only have I gotten in the best shape of my life but I have gained a stellar community in the process. The coaches and community around has encouraging me to push past limits I didn’t think I could get past. I can hostly say, Im a better person because of this box

Take us back to when you first started CrossFit. Tell us what that was like in the beginning?

What's different for you now? How have things changed for you since starting CrossFit?

Life is different (in a good way) for me now. I have 3 kids (4, 2, and 5 months) and I have energy to play and engage with them in ways they need. Not only has my energy increased but I have also seen a significant difference in my mental capacity. I’ve seen the more I workout is the stronger I am mental. 

I can honesty say, that CrossFit has reshaped my life holistically.

What specific goals have you accomplished since starting CrossFit?

I weighed 155 lbs when I stared CrossFit with the goal of gaining 15 lbs. I am proud to say that I weight 170 lbs today.

What was the hardest part or the biggest obstacle you faced along the way?

The hardest part for me was coming to the realization that I had (and still do) a long ways to go. There is a drive in me like never before to go beyond what I think my physical and mental limits are. It’s still a growth area Im striving to improve in.

Has it been worth it? Why or why not?

No doubt it has been worth it. My quality of life as well as my families quality of life is better because of it.
